A Legacy of Support: Reflecting on 30 Years as a Lactation Consultant
Peaceful Beginnings

In 1994, I became one of the first group of lactation consultants certified at Cone Health Women’s Hospital. I had no idea then just how many families would walk into my life — or how profoundly their stories would shape mine.

For three decades, I’ve had the immense honor of supporting families through some of the most tender, vulnerable, and transformative moments of their lives. From my early days at the hospital to the quiet living rooms I now visit through my private practice, Peaceful Beginnings, this work has always been about one thing: connection.

It’s about the parent who, in the middle of the night, worries their baby isn’t getting enough.

It’s about the one who’s recovering from surgery, navigating PPD, or holding back tears as they try to latch their newborn.

It’s about celebrating the first pain-free feed, the moment baby starts gaining weight, or the joy of tandem nursing two little ones at once.

Over the years, I’ve seen it all — tongue ties and thrush, mastitis and milk supply struggles, moments of doubt and moments of triumph. And I’ve had the privilege of witnessing what happens when a parent feels seen, supported, and empowered.

Recently, I’ve been overwhelmed (in the best way!) by the kind words shared in reviews from the families I’ve worked with. One called me a "fairy godmother." Another said they wouldn’t have made it without me. These aren’t just testimonials — they’re love letters, and each one brings back memories of the people, the babies, and the bonds we built.

I retired from my hospital work at the end of 2024, but I continue to serve families through Peaceful Beginnings — a practice I began in 2007 with the belief that lactation support should feel peaceful, personal, and powerful. That belief has only grown stronger with time.

To all the families I’ve met along the way: thank you. Thank you for letting me into your homes and hearts. Thank you for trusting me with your questions, your worries, and your babies. You are the reason I love this work so deeply.

If we’ve worked together and you haven’t shared your story yet, I’d love to hear from you. Whether in a Facebook or Google review, or just a quiet message — your words matter more than you know.

Here’s to every peaceful beginning — and to all the beautiful journeys still ahead.

With love,

Linda
